For my ImagineIT, I want to identify my student understanding through a new avenue. With the passing of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), I have the opportunity to rethink how I assess student understanding. On any given day, my class can hit 5-6 of the standards without a problem. However, the one that rarely, if ever, gets brought to the forefront is "Developing and Using Models." Therefore, the Big Idea for my ImagineIt will be to have my students develop models to emphasize their understanding of scientific concepts. This could be, but not limited to, drawings, using Play-Doh, dioramas, mechanical models, or technological software such as iMotion. The top picture represents the fact that in a science community, we all need to work together to solve a common problem. The middle picture represents the creativity that is in us all. The bottom picture is a really awesome physical model taken at the Brick By Brick exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry. Lastly, the tool that I used to create the images was Google Drawing.
